There are some ‘outside’ communites which you should try out to create and find some new contacts. Here are a little suggestion list:
Try them to find out which of them works the best for your personal needs.
FLICKR (EN) http://www.flickr.com Here you uploading your photos - doesnt matter if you use just windlight or did some retouch with them! You can join many (!!) groups which are in releation to SL - and you will find easily new and known contacts. It’s big fun there!
NING (EN) http://www.ning.com Register and find special networks with releation to SL - but here the ‘live’ messaging isn’t in the front. You can creating your own group, adding a lot of ppl to your contacts, taking ‘blog’ posts on the community site.
Hey everyone - i’m totally excited to tell you all that i wrote my first quick-tip for you! Its about snapshot-retouching. I often get asked about my workflow and how i achieve certain effects - now its time to to show them to the world! as you may know everyone has different work styles and I encourage you to find your very own - but still, i hope this helps you a bit! It’s gonna be fun!
In my eyes a correct ‘windlight’ setting (xml.file) is very important for great results - it is far easier in the postproduction if you start with an already great pic. Long story short: you should pay attention on settings like : gamma ( should be high but not to high and dont forget about facelights), brightness, saturation etc… . Talking about facelights - you should definitively wear one - if everything is alright your skin (especially in the face) should look smooth.
So enough talking - todays lesson will be about LIGHT. Light is a very important factor in terms of photography. I really don’t trust the light of the windlight settings (which is created of the shader functions) but if you do its fine - just a personal choice - decide for youself! ( Its useful of course for water sceneries or places with special atmosphere to catch the glow and so on. Sidenote: It depends on the location e.g. : studio or somewhere at a sim.
Lets start off with this sample image below:
(taken without shader function)
You easily can tell that there is nothing special or exciting about this image - just plain sl.
To get some shadows and/or lights we first need to create a new layer. Open the menu -filter - render - lens flare effect and create something like the image below. just play around with the settings! I transformed it a bit because at this certain picture it makes more sense. ( you will notice later.. still, just play around with the settings):
Now we set the layer preferences- screen and voilá! you instantly see the difference:
All what you have to do now is adding more detail the light and shadows. Your final result may look similar to mine then:

Thank you for reading my first quick tip! I hope I could give you some insight to my workflow and teach you some new techniques. Since this is my first quick-tip i ask kindly for your feedback! Is there anything you would like to know in the future?
